(More customer reviews)The GOPICNIC ENERGY BOOST CARE PACKAGE contains a selection of foods made from chick peas, potatoes, rice flour, and beef. Therefore, by definition, the foods are gluten-free. Gluten is a protein from wheat flour. Some people must avoid this particular protein. At any rate, the products in this package, with the possible exception of the rice-flour crackers, are familiar to most Americans.
WILD GARDEN HUMMUS DIP. There are four packets of this product, each 50 grams. Each packet is sufficient for making a sandwich. The consumer has the option, of course, of adding alfalfa sprouts and a tomato slice. The hummus contains a hint of lemon, as it should. But I wish that there had been more garlic. I wasn't really able to detect any garlic. As a Californian, I insist on being overpowered by fresh garlic, where appropriate.
POPCHIPS BARBEQUE POTATO CHIPS. This is an 85 gram bag of barbeque potato chips. The chips are unique because they are round, and also because they have a surface that is puffy and bubbly. (The chips were not made by frying or baking.) The flavor is just right and not overpowering.
CRUNCHMASTER MULTI-SEED CRACKERS. The care package contains a 127 gram bag of rice flour crackers. Upon opening the package, the consumer is aware the distinctive fragrance of sesame oil. People who love Chinese food, will be familiar with the same fragrance, when using unrefined sesame oil. At any rate, this is one of my favorite aromas. (Strangely enough, sesame oil has no flavor, but it does have a distinctive aroma.) The crackers are made by TH Foods of Loves Park, Illinois.
GOPICNIC READY-TO-EAT MEALS. The care package also contains a box containing a small meal. In the box is an 18 gram packet of beef nuggets, made by Jack Link's from Minong, Wisconsin. The beef nuggets are like beef jerky, but they are shaped roughly in cubes, they are more moist than beef jerky, and they are somewhat seet. The beef nuggets do not contain fibers -- the quality of the meat is excellent The Ready-To-Eat meal also contains a small package of Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers, cheese dip, ginger peanut snack, and Almond Roca.
TRAIL MIX. The care package contains a 170 gram envelope of trail mix from Sheffa Foods. The trail mix contains chickpea noodles, corn, and pumpkin seeds. The trail mix is somewhat bland. What is missing from the trail mix is something zesty, such as dried cranberries, or even raisins.
RASPBERRY DRINK. Finally, the care package contains four packets of powdered raspberry drink mix, each having 9.4 grams of powder.
CONCLUSION. On the plus side, the Jack Link's beef nuggets were surprisingly good. Also, the Popchips potato chips were addictive. Moreover, the generous aroma of the sesame seed oil in the Crunchmaster crackers was a welcome scent to this reviewer's palate. On the minus side, I wish that hummus had a more convincing garlic component. This reviewer has published a textbook on nutrition, NUTRITIONAL BIOCHEMISTRY (Academic Press, Inc.). On page 152, I describe the condition that requires gluten-free diets. The condition can be treated with wheat-free diets that are based, for example, on rice or corn. Perhaps for the next edition of this book, I should recommend the GOPICNIC ENERGY BOOST CARE PACKAGE. The products are fine for everyone, not just for those who need to avoid wheat.
