(More customer reviews)I absolutely LOVE truffles- use truffle oil, salt, and the occasional fresh truffle when I really get ambitious. I'm not sure why any company would put to market sub-standard products (at ANY price). GourmetFoodStore, a company that has a large selection of gourmet food items and seems to know their business, carries a product entitled "SUMMER BLACK FRENCH TRUFFLES- BRUSHED FIRST CHOICE". I purchased this item then, after opening and tasting it, called the company to complain about the flavor and consistency which can fairly be compared to an edible sponge rubber. I was informed by the vendor that if I wanted more flavor I would have to purchase the fresh truffles. Frankly, it appeared they knew the product wasn;t very good, but then why would they carry it?? Because of other things I have purchased from them, I figured they gained some reputation points for product quality (of other items) and prompt service, so I felt that I would purchase this product, assuming it woud be a good value. Boy was I wrong! I d not anticipate purchasing from GourmetFoodStore again and would not recommend it to anyone. At the very least, they should have offered some sort of restitution for selling a poor quality product- even a small token to demonstrate empathy would have sufficed, but to suggest I make an additional purchase if I wanted "flavor", when that was precisely my expectation for this order was borderline insulting. I am an avid Amazon.com shopper, purchasing thousands of dollars in goods over the past several months, so it's not like I am new to online shopping. I just expect reasonable product quality and good customer service from those companies with which I transact business.
